More big moves by Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill. Earlier Nill acquired Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley in a blockbuster deal with the Boston Bruins, and now Nill has completely changed the state of the depth in the Dallas Stars center core as the Dallas Stars have now acquired the current Edmonton Oiler captain and NHL veteran Shawn Horcoff in exchange for defenseman Philip Larsen and a 7th round draft pick in the 2016 NHL entry draft.

Horcoff, 34, was drafted 99th overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1998 NHL entry draft. Horcoff is a native of Trail, BC, Canada and will be entering his 13th NHL season. Horcoff has played 765 career NHL games, all with Edmonton, and has 435 career points (155 g, 280 a) and in 35 career playoff games, Horcoff has registered 23 points (10g, 13a).

In return the Stars are sending defenseman Philip Larsen and a seventh round pick in the 2016 NHL entry draft. Larsen, 23, is coming off a bad 2013 campaign where in 32 games Larsen registered five points (2g, 3a) and was a -10 in plus/minus. Larsen’s small build (6’0, 183 pounds) often got him overmatched against the bigger forechecking forwards of his opponent and Stars fans didn’t get to see his point shot on the powerplay enough.

With this acquisition the Stars center lineup has been completely overhauled. In the 2013 season the Stars center lineup consisted of: Jamie Benn, Derek Roy, Cody Eakin and Vernon Fiddler. Now after today’s trades the Stars now have Tyler Seguin, Rich Peverley, Shawn Horcoff, Vernon Fiddler and Cody Eakin available for centers. Jim Nill has now put his stamp on this team as he continues to rebuild the roster for the 2013-2014 season.
