Sad news developing in the Dallas Stars camp Thursday, as it was reported on Twitter, and in this article, that Winkler was found dead in his parents’ home in his native country of Norway. Winkler was just 23 years of age and had come off his senior year at Colorado College where he had 28 points (13g, 15a). Winkler was set to become another Stars prospect entering his first year of professional hockey. Winkler was drafted in the third round (89th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
The official Dallas Stars General Manager, Jim Nill, had this to say on the passing of Scott Winkler, “The Dallas Stars are heartbroken to hear about Scott’s passing, Scott was a wonderful young man with great character and a bright future; we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
